It offers an spanking-new opportunity to explore the foundations of the Christian faith and to uncork wrestling with some of the big questions of life. The Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE) is platonic for those who want to go deeper in their faith and for those who want to be equipped for transformational service and leadership. If you are interested in studying for longer than two years, this undertow acts as the first two years of our six-year BA course. This undertow is validated by the University of Chester.UndertowContent Year 1 Modules TH4936: Exploring the Old Testament Story - Dr Matt Lynch This module introduces students to the diverse literature of the Old Testament, and to vital methods for its interpretation. Students will proceeds skills in biblical exegesis through focussed viewing of key texts. Students will be worldly-wise to wield key Old Testament insights to their life, work, or ministry contexts. TH4929: The New Testament Journey - Dr Erin Heim Introducing students to the first century world in which Jesus lived, died, was resurrected, and in which the denomination began, this module inspires and equips students to engage with scripture afresh. Students will be introduced to a variety of perspectives as they delve into the historical, literary and theological world of the New Testament. They will have the opportunity to explore the revelation of God in Jesus Christ, how New Testament writers understood the Kingdom of God, and what this ways for the trendy church. TH4934: The Drama of Doctrine - Dr Lucy Peppiatt This module explores questions such as, ‘Where do Christian beliefs come from and how do we decide what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ or true or false? What happened in the early denomination without the Bible was written? What place does the denomination have in what we believe and why?’ We explore the foundations of the Christian faith in scripture and the early church, and how those foundations have endured through the ages. Students have the opportunity to reflect on how we describe God, who Jesus is, how the Holy Spirit fits in, and other inside beliefs. In wing to this, we have the opportunity to discuss how these beliefs shape our churches, our identity, our mission, and our practices. TH4932: SpiritualInseminationand Leadership I - Dr Lucy Peppiatt This module combines teaching on spiritual insemination and practical leadership skills and gives a well-rounded and dynamic view of discipleship and leadership in our individual contexts. Students have the opportunity to reflect on their own spiritual insemination and gifting through exploring the spiritual insemination tradition through scripture and the ages. Year 2 Modules TH4933: SpiritualInseminationand Leadership II - Rev Chris Pemberton Following on from Part I in year one, this module develops ideas on how we grow as disciples, ministers, and leaders in all walks of life. From biblical stories and early denomination writings to trendy research, students will explore topics such as mettlesome discipleship, mismatch resolution, and the inner life of a leader. The module combines practical wisdom and insight on the Christian life with reflections on the biblical and theological teaching that underpins it. TH4935: Faith Seeking Understanding - Dr Lucy Peppiatt This module builds on TH4934 (The Drama of Doctrine) taking students deeper into the study of Christian doctrine and systematic theology. Having begun the study of doctrine in the first year, we are worldly-wise to examine the inside doctrines of the Christian faith in increasingly detail. Students have the opportunity to evaluate Christian systems of weighing in the light of denominational differences, culture, and competing truth claims. TH4937: Classics of Early Christian Literature - Dr Steve Watts Students are provided with an opportunity to explore the unconfined wealth of literature that emerged during the early centuries of Christianity (ca. 250-800). Students will proceeds an understanding of the significance of variegated literary forms (e.g. sayings, sermons, letters, dialogues, and saints’ lives) while developing the skills to read each text powerfully with reference to its respective literary and historical contexts. TH4908: Mission - Dr Bob Ekblad This module brings an empowering and challenging perspective to the questions of how the denomination should be engaging in the undeniability to make disciples of all nations. It integrates deep exploration of Scripture, a snooping for those on the margins, and a living encounter with the Gospel’s power to transform individuals and society. Entry Requirements This undertow is suitable for anyone who wants to go deeper in their faith but is particularly geared towards those who have not previously studied at University level. With A-levels, 72 UCAS points are normally required. (This is using UCAS’s new Tariff system that was introduced in September 2017).
